PROJECT KNOWLEDGE- Day 38 & 39

Day 38 & 39: The Miller's House, McAuley Theatre, & Tim Perrino of Cincinnati Landmark Productions; Cincinnati, Ohio

We departed from the Kaye's House and headed straight to the Miller's House! After a long and very windy ride, we arrived at Amy's house and had a lovely dinner with her adorable parents, Tom and Ann Miller. We spent the evening excitedly discussing the findings of our trip so far and Junior finally was able to meet her grandparents!

The next day we started our morning with a tour of the newly remodeled theatre at McAuley High School where Amy's theatrical career began! Many thanks to Connie Kampschmidt, the Asstistant Principal, for so graciously giving us a tour on her spring break! It was incredible to see the amazing renovations to the beautiful auditorium. It was also extremely touching for Amy to be able to share such a sentimental and important theatre with the rest of the group. In her wildest dreams, she never would have imagined returning to McAuley in RV's with her theatre company that is dedicated to improving the health of American Theatre!!!!

Next, we travelled our RVs to the West Side of town to visit Tim Perrino, Artistic Director of Cincinnati Landmark Productions. Cincinnati Landmark Productions is home to The Showboat Majestic, The Covedale Center For The Performing Arts, and Cincinnati Young People's Theatre (CYPT). Amy spent some of the greatest summers of her life with CYPT and later went on to work at The Showboat Majestic before heading off to college and New York City. We sat down with Tim to hear the incredibly inspiring story about how his organization evolved. All of the other organizations actually grew out of Cinncinnati Yong Peoples Theatre. This teen program began in 1982 with 10 kids who each gave $10 to be apart of a summer drama program! (It's amazing to see what it has grown into today!) CYPT is a project for, of, and by teenagers (13 - 19 years old) and has since produced 25 years of exciting summer shows, including: West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Anything Goes, 42nd Street, Children of Eden, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and many more! The summer provides great opportunities to performers and theatre technicians alike. To date, over 1,500 teens have been a part of CYPT.

Tim shared candidly with us the serendipitous growth of his company and inspired us with his strong commitment to the local community. He also is one of the coolest guys ever and was a driving force in instilling a love and passion for the arts (plus an unwavering work ethic!) within Amy. Tim has inspired 1,000's upon 1,000's of Cincinnati youth and audiences for over 28 years! Hats off to him and everyone at Cincinnati Landmark productions for their phenomenal commitment to sustaining a long term vision that has made an indelible mark upon Cincinnati and beyond.

The day concluded with a visit to Amy's sister's house for yet another production of our hit show "Living Room A New Dream"! Megan and Dan have 3 beautiful children: Lily, Sonia, and Danny. Lily and Sonia had the best time ever dancing and singing for us! We think they are getting their chops ready to join Transcendence Theatre in the years to come!

Cincinnati was a truly delightful stop on our trip! Tomorrow we are off to Madison, Indiana to see The Riverrun Theatre Company and then we will continue our drive to Chicago. Spirits are high and we are learning tons! Thank you to everyone who has been supporting our company's mission! We couldn't do it without you!
