Day 8- Destination: Austin, TX
We woke up to a beautiful day in Dallas and got on the road for a sunny 3 1/2 hour drive to Austin, TX. We had one great stop along the way at a shell station that had a lot of good food from a local company, Oma's Choice (jars of salsa, pickles, baked goods, etc.) We bought a few jars and Eric, the distributor for the company gave us 12 mini pies for free!
About an hour later we pulled in to our lovely new home for the next two nights, the Lonestar RV camp. Park manager, Johnny, gave us the run down of what the park has to offer.
We took a couple of hours to regroup before foraging for food and just so happened to cross paths with a couple of guys who are on a cross-country tour themselves. Their cause is called In Motion For A Million and they are roller-blading coast to coast to raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They're really great guys with a great mission. Check out their site!
After grabbing some dinner, we went downtown to listen to some live music. The music scene in Austin is pretty incredible. Every single bar has live entertainment! Our first stop was a dueling piano bar, but we ended up off the tourist strip in a great dog-friendly bar that was playing some awesome jazz/indie music. We sat on the rooftop with our dog, Junior, philosophizing theatre into the night and preparing for our meeting with the Vortex Theatre the next morning.
