PROJECT KNOWLEDGE- Day 14

Day 14: Hilton Head Benefit!

Our incredible host, Susan, planned an action packed day for us, beginning with a breakfast of fruit and homemade banana bread! Our first activity of the day was a visit to the Fraser Health Center which Susan frequents every monday to play bingo and bring chocolate to the residents. For an hour we sang old standards and show tunes, and Randi even did a few tap dance numbers for them! We're so happy we had the opportunity to connect with the Fraser community, and share such a special afternoon!

We then stopped at the Jiva Yoga Center (where the benefit was being held) to take a yoga class with our new friend Vicky who is an incredible instructor. After an hour of yoga and a quick perusal of the space, we grabbed a quick dinner and returned to Susan's house to get ready for our 8:00 benefit!

Susan organized the entire benefit for us, providing wine and hors d'oeuvres, and doing all the advertising and publicity in the local paper. To hold up our end of the bargain, all we had to do was literally show up and perform! At 8:00 the guests arrived for the reception to socialize and partake of the wine and the healthy and delicious food made by a local chef, Patty Lipkins. Local high schoolers, Ella, Brenna, Laura, Haley, and Marissa did a fantastic job of passing out the refreshments and greeting guests.

A special thanks to Jean and Ken Rio for donating their yoga studio for our event! It was the first time we have ever performed a benefit show in a non-theatre type space. It proved to be a really awesome experience. Everyone had to take off their shoes to enter the studio, and since there weren't many chairs, our guests sat on yoga bolsters and blankets. During the performance, Randi even put a wooden plank on top of a yoga mat so she could tap dance!!! The evening was a great success as we were able to share our company's goals and mission with a lot of people who weren't familiar with us prior to the event!

We are so grateful to Susan and her family for their incredible generosity and hospitality during our stay. We are so sad to leave, but we have to get on the road to Asheville, NC!

  1. You guys are awesome!! The residents at the Fraser Health Center had to just love you all!! And they got to see/hear "Magic Feet" do her thing too!! Sounds like you are getting some deeper and more substantial input and conversation from people now, especially after reading your Day 16 recap. Keep up the good work!!
