PROJECT KNOWLEDGE- Day 13

Day 13: Celise Kalke, Alliance Theatre, Atlanta, Georgia

Today we had an inspired conversation with Celise Kalke the Director of New Projects at the Alliance Theatre. The Alliance Theatre in a prestigious theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. One thing that sets it apart from other regional theaters across the country is it's dedication to nurturing young playwrights with the Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Competition which Celise administers and which the Alliance hosts every year.

We had an enlightening conversation about, among other things, the challenges of developing new plays, the theatre in Prague and how a different model of theatre is thriving there, further ways to engage the community in our creative process, and the necessity of our group to establish a collaborative environment from which new works could emerge organically.

Check out Apres Diem, this great brunch place in Atlanta, Georgia where we met Celise... great food, a warm & artistic atmosphere (with local painters work featured on the walls), and live Jazz (for brunch!).

After our talk with Celise we made a quick trip to Trader Joes (we can never stock up on enough organic food!) and got on the road to Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Susan Hebbel and her family (Chuck, Jennifer, Amy, and Casey), have been amazing supporters of our company (in fact Susan has her own Grassroots Campaign on our website - click here to check it out). They have been so gracious to invite us to stay with them and to organize a benefit for us tomorrow at a local Yoga Studio in Hilton Head... as well as a singing visit to a local retirement home.

After our drive we spent the night at their house preparing for our shows, laughing, singing by the piano, eating the food they prepared for us, and talking theatre! We felt blessed to be so taken care of, and to be in a real house again. After 2 weeks on the road, this is us looking forward to our first night in real beds (except Brad and Amy who are sleeping with our dog Junior in the RV)!
